A Glimpse into the Future

It's New Year's Eve 2019 and I'm too sick to go to the concert we bought tickets to months ago. I'm not "sick-sick" anymore, but I have this annoying, persistent, dry cough. The cold started the day after Christmas - I was so pleased I held off on getting sick to see my family's smiling faces while opening their gifts. The iPads were a hit! My boys are 15 and 13 and hard to buy for now. I made Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve so it was  relaxing day all around.

December 26th I was sick on the couch. I sat on that couch for 4 long days. Low grade fever, on and off, mildly drippy nose, not full-on congestion. I remember needing a lot of blankets and very little Kleenex. It was a very strange combination between Common Cold and Flu. I didn't think much of it as we binge-watched "Mandalorian" on Disney Plus, savoring every episode. I felt okay, but didn't leave my spot much. My husband cooked for me and the boys; I didn't have an appetite until the food was placed in front of me. Thank goodness he had the week off!

We watched the ball drop in Times Square. I was astounded at how the crowds were holding their phones up to record the event, rather than taking it all in and experiencing it fully.  My eldest, annoyed with me, just said "Okay, Boomer." as if he doesn't like his generation criticized for their behavior. I'm actually GenX, but this is the Millenial way of tossing older folks the finger. I get it.
